How to Build a Powerful Brand

Contrary to popular belief, a brand is not a logo or other outward identifier, but a belief. It's what a person thinks of when they hear your name, whether factual or emotional. Below are some important elements to keep in mind when building your brand.

1. Your Why

Having a defining purpose, or your "why," as we like to call it, differentiates you from your competitors. When defining your purpose, demonstrate your commitment to providing value beyond a sale. This will set your brand apart from others in your industry.

2. Feelings

Feelings matter—especially those of your customers. You want people to have an emotional response to your brand. Find a way to connect to your customers on a deeper, more emotional level. Do you give them peace of mind? Make them feel like part of a community? Relieve their stress? Using emotional triggers to build your brand can create loyalty.

3. Competition

Find inspiration and motivation to strengthen your brand in your competition. They're in the same business and are pursuing the same customers, so watch what they do that's successful and target areas where you can do better.

4. Loyalty

Loyalty is a critical part of every brand strategy, especially if you're looking for continued sales. Highlighting a positive relationship between you and your existing customers by featuring them on your website through testimonials and case studies sets the tone for what potential customers can expect if they do business with you.

5. Consistency

Consistency contributes to brand recognition and fuels customer loyalty. Avoid leaving potential customers struggling to put the disconnected pieces of your business together by ensuring that all of your messaging is cohesive. If you add a photo to your social media channel, it has to have meaning and align with your message. You should only discuss things that enhance your brand.
