Finding Out About The City From Insiders
Here’s a short blogroll to help you navigate some of the issues and insights of life in vibrant Toronto. This is a great primer if you’re new to the city, or if you simply want a list of places on the web to return to time and again for incisive content related to culture, news or best spots in the neighbourhood.
If you’ve lived in TO for a while, some of these blogs may be familiar to you already. Feel free to add to the list by tweeting us with your suggests @inboxtweets. We are Inbox Communications, a Toronto HubSpot Partner, and we love hearing from peeps. You can also share this list with your out-of-town guests, your business clients, or your besties.
Love,
Inbox! A great Toronto inbound marketing agency.
The Ethnic Aisle
A droll play on the grocery aisle where pan-ethnic cuisine is lumped, this blog aims to rightly diversify the “ethnic” experience in Canada with more nuanced and complex coverage on contemporary issues that can be found in mainstream media. The site also does magazine-style pieces on topics such as being white or having a big booty.
Oh No They Didn't! The Ethnic Aisle takes a video still from "Baby Got Back" for its story on booty.
Women in Toronto Politics
They refer to themselves by the character-conserving moniker of WiTOpoli, to be pronounced as if it rhymed with “monopoly.” This blog is rich with analysis and visual content around issues of representation. Their summary of issues in the news is called WiTOpoli Weekly. It’s well-written and on point. Luv!
Hazlitt
This is like Christmas morning for lovers of long-format lit. An absolute frenzy of voices, this site from Penguin Random House contributes to the culture by developing a voice of contemporary Canadians on issues as banal as growing in one’s eyebrows (from the Unfuck Yourself section), to the scandale horribilis that is dominating news feeds these days.
Yosh Photography
An independent photographer who likes indie music and street style documents his comings and goings in large-size posts of feature photography. Great visual scroll of contemporary culture largely unmediated by captions. Yosh includes a few words of context and a hashtag or six, and that’s all. You’re free to interpret and extract meaning.
